2009 ELCA Youth Gathering, New Orleans, July 22-26  

Last summer 4 youth and 2 adults from Saint John's traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to participate in the 2009 ELCA Youth Gathering.  The Gathering has been described as a "servant school" for 36,000 ELCA youth.   Our Youth have been preparing for this event since January and they would like to thank all of you who have been so generous in your support for this trip.  The Gathering was  different than Gatherings in the past as we performed hands on ministry in the Gulf Coast region as it continues to recover from the Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.   Our group helped scrape and paint in an elementary school.  We focused on service and justice as we sought a greater understanding of our shared reality as Christians.  There also were also times for exploring the Interaction Center and many other activities to connect with youth throughout the ELCA.
